Richard Bruce Drinkwater, 60, of the 2700 block of George Drive, died March 23, 1996, at his residence.
Mr. Drinkwater, a retired U.S Navy senior chief petty officer, was a native of Hyannis, Mass. He was a veteran of Vietnam. He received a B.S. degree from Old Dominion University and a masters degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He was a licensed private pilot and was formerly employed with SYSCON as an electronics technician.
Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie McFarlane of Porter Corners, N.Y., Linda Cowles of Chesapeake; a brother, Byron A. Drinkwater of Marshfield, Mass.; two grandchildren, Timothy M. McFarlane of Porter Corners, Shannon S. Cowles of Chesapeake; three nieces; a nephew; and a sister-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Sarah Drinkwater.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Portsmouth Assembly of God by the Rev. Homer L. Peterson. Burial will be at sea at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wildlife Society, 5410 Grosvenor Lane, Bethesda, Md., 20814-2197. The family will be at the residence of his daughter, 2757 Martha Drive, Chesapeake. Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel, is in charge.
