CLARENCE R. WHITEHURST

Clarence R. Whitehurst, 86, of Harris Road, died March 25, 1996, at his residence.

Mr. Whitehurst was born in South Mills, N.C. He was the son of the late John and Josephine Etheridge Whitehurst. He was a member of the Craddock United Methodist Church. He was a retired carpenter with Gregory Construction Co., a member of the New Lebanon Masonic Lodge (NU)314 AF&AM, and an honorary member United Brotherhood Carpenters & Joiners of America.

He is survived by his wife, Bulah Sawyer Whitehurst; three daughters, Joyce Cooke of Houston, Texas, Melva Lowry of Rossville, Ga., and Marie Larson of Virginia Beach; one sister, Mattie Russell of Bokellia Pine Island, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted on Friday, at 11 a.m. in Craddock United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael Robbins officiating. Burial will follow at Whitehurst Family Cemetery, South Mills, N.C. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Twiford Colonial Chapel, Great Bridge, Chesapeake.
