Alfred Gordon Stephenson Jr., 91, of Virginia Beach, died March 25, 1996.
Mr. Stephenson was a native of Norfolk, a resident of Virginia Beach and a long time summer resident of Truro, Mass. He was a graduate of Woodbury Forest School and the University of Virginia. During World War II he was with the State Department as a courier with the Diplomatic Services, with duty in Spain, Portugal and France. After the war he went into business with his father. Together they owned the A. Gordon Stephenson and Son Real Estate and Insurance Company, which subsequently became Stephenson and Cooke, now Cooke and Neff. From 1971 to 1972 he was chairman of the Board of Virginia Beach General Hospital and from 1973 to 1974 he was the president of the Board of Virginia Beach General Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Patricia Loram Stephenson; a sister, Elizabeth Stephenson Sills of Virginia Beach; a nephew, John Sills of Staunton, Va.; a niece, Mrs. David Del Zell of Birmingham, Ala.; a stepdaughter, Cynthia Mary Conroy of Alexandria, Va.; two stepsons, David L. Conroy of New York City and Robert B. Conroy of Punta Gorda, Fla.; four great-nieces; and two step-grandaughters.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, March 29, 1996, at Elmwood Cemetery by the Rev. Andrew MacBeth. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Virginia Beach General Hospital, 1060 First Colonial Road, Virginia Beach, Va., or the Truro Conservation Trust, P.O. Box 327, North Truro, Mass., 02652. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, are handling arrangements.
