Ronald T. Wakeham, Norfolk's director of fire and paramedical services for nearly five years, has resigned to become head of the Bangor Fire Department in Maine, city officials announced Tuesday.
Wakeham's last day will be May 10, and he will begin his new job May 13.
He said his decision was partially motivated by a love for the New England state. He also said he chose a smaller department to be closer to day-to-day operations. The Bangor department has about 100 firefighters and three fire stations.
``As the first director of Norfolk's merged fire and paramedical services department, I believe I have helped implement meaningful change in Norfolk,'' Wakeham said. ``However, the administrative press of business in a department with 15 fire stations and a 490-member staff is extremely demanding.'' by CNB
