A severed natural gas line prompted the evacuation of shoppers and workers at the Providence Square Shopping Center Tuesday afternoon, a fire department spokesman said.
The accident occurred about 2:30 p.m. in the 5200 block of Providence Road behind the Yukon Steak Co., said Battalion Chief Mike Wade. The leak was caused when workers accidentally cut the two-inch line. About a fourth of the people at the shopping center were evacuated for a short time, he said.
Crews from Virginia Natural Gas repaired the line a short time later, Wade said. by CNB
