If you are into photography, picture these April offerings: Riddick's Folly in Suffolk will display old photos and old cameras; Rawls Museum Arts in Courtland will offer classes in picture taking and developing.
Rawls also has a student art exhibition, as does the Miles B. Carpenter Folk Museum in Waverly.
Here's a look at what's happening this month:
SUFFOLK MUSEUM
April 2 to May 7: Pastel painting class I for beginners and II for intermediates. 10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays. Bring a 24-piece soft pastel set and a pad of charcoal/pastel paper. $30.
April 2: Figurative oil painting will be demonstrated by Karen Kinser of Chesapeake. 1 p.m. Free. Bring bag lunch.
April 4 to 25: Intermediate quilting class. 10 a.m. Thursdays. Call museum for a list of supplies. Emily Dalton, instructor. $25.
April 10 to May 12: Art and writing invitational exhibition. Two- and three-dimensional art is used as inspiration for poetry, prose and other literary forms. Art and writing are on display. Free.
April 13 to May 18: Beginning quilting class Saturdays, 10 a.m. to noon, except for April 20. Needles and fabric are supplied. Templates are $1, an optional quilting book is $9.95. They can be purchased from the instructor, Emily Dalton. $30.
April 20 to May 11: Creative writing workshop. 3 to 4:30 p.m. 13 and up. Bring pens, pencils and writing paper. $40.
April 22, 24, 26: ``Preschool Picassos.'' 3 to 5 years. Participants must bring smocks. Films will be shown. $20. Family and friends are invited to a showing of the children's work, 10 a.m. April 27.
April 23: Oil pastel demonstration by Janice Gay Maker. 1 to 2 p.m. Free. Bring bag lunch.
RIDDICK'S FOLLY
A Girl Scout exhibit featuring local artwork and artifacts continues through March 31.
The following programs are free:
March 31: ``The Joy and Ease of Growing Herbs,'' presented by Laura Viancour, coordinator for Garden Programs and Training of Colonial Williamsburg. 2 p.m.
April 14: Marcel Riddick of Suffolk will demonstrate African music and storytelling. 2 p.m.
ISLE OF WIGHT MUSEUM
The Illustrious Citizen exhibit continues. Honorees are Nancy and Frederick M. Barrett Jr. of Smithfield; Exhibits of local World War II memorabilia, and archaeological artifacts, are continuing.

A student art exhibit for Surry and Sussex county students continues through April 22.
WALTER CECIL RAWLS
April 6 and 13: A darkroom workshop leading to certification for use of the museum photo lab. 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. $60 for museum art members, $70 for others.
April 6: ``Children's Spring Creative Twist Basket.'' 11 to 16. Instructor, Rene Brown. 9 a.m. to noon. $10 for museum art members, $12 for others. Bring snack and drink. Materials will be provided.
April 9 to May 7: Photography class. 7 p.m. Bring camera and film, both black and white, and color. $50 for museum art members, $60 for others.
