John David Stephenson, 74, of the 5700 block of Bennetts Pasture Road, died March 26, 1996, in a Suffolk hospital.
He was a native of Benson, N.C., and was a retired operations manager at CSX Railroad. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Portsmouth, Bennetts Creek Ruritan Club, the American Legion, and was a former city council member in Dillon, S.C. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Estelle C. Stephenson; two sons, Michael Beard of Midlothian, Va., and John R. Stephenson of Suffolk; a brother, William Dallas Stephenson of Dillon, S.C.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, by the Rev. Skip Rustay. Entombment will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
