ROBERT L. WHITE JR.

Robert Lee White Jr., 59, died March 26, 1996, at his home.

A retiree of Norfolk-Portsmouth Beltline Railroad, he was a native of South Norfolk. He was a member of the South Norfolk Niners. Besides being a bridge tender for the Jordan Bridge, Mr. White had served in the Navy Reserves. He was a former coach for South Norfolk Boys Baseball, and had attended Oscar F. Smith High School. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Mary Janet White; daughter, Linda J. Tipton; two sons, Vernon L. White and Richard S. White, both of Chesapeake; granddaughter, Amber; and four grandsons, Garry, Hunter, Bradley, and Jesse, all of Chesapeake.

A memorial service will be conducted Friday, March 29, at 11 a.m. at Providence Evangelical Friends Church, 5340 Providence Road, Virginia Beach, given by Chaplain J.C. Jones. The family will receive friends afterwards at his son's home on West Road.
