(Ret.) Chief Petty Officer Preston V. Chavers, of the 1700 block of Citadel Road, died March 25, 1996.
He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service and was a native of Sharon, Pa. He was a member of Community Baptist Church, Farrell, Pa. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and belonged to V.F.W. of Farrell, Pa.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra L. Chavers; daughter, Carla L. Chavers of Norfolk; mother, Dorann Gray of Cleveland, Ohio; stepmother, Elizabeth Chavers and father, Robert E. Chavers Sr., both of Ferrell, Pa.; sister, Deborah Artis of Riverside, Calif.; five stepsisters, Patricia Jackson of Youngstown, Ohio, Ernestine Hurt of Farmville, Va., Samantha Chavers of Pittsburgh, Pa., Angela Chavers of Michigan and Dorene Gray of Cleveland; two brothers, Robert E. Chavers Jr. of Riverside, Calif., and Vincent Chavers of Sharon, Pa.; three stepbrothers, Gene Shannonhouse of California, Jack Shannonhouse of Ferrell, Pa., Gy Chavers of Sharon, Pa.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday by the Rev. Byron Collins in Community Funeral Chapel. Burial is in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk. There will be a wake Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
