Regarding ``How about some positive publicity'' (letter, March 10) suggesting a series of articles focusing on positive activities in the schools: While I, too, feel frustrated and deceived by those individuals responsible for the financial mismanagement in Virginia Beach schools, the turmoil has not adversely impacted our students. Why? Because our staff and parents have pulled together and creatively and resourcefully ensured that any resulting impact on our students will be minimal.
Our PTA, under the capable leadership of Kathy Farmer, has been superbly supportive, providing both volunteers and monetary assistance to replace some of the funds we didn't receive.
James L. Pughsley, interim superintendent, and Donald Peccia, associate superintendent, worked closely and cooperatively with central-office directors and School Board members to ensure that any fund reductions would not significantly impact students. In my opinion, they have succeeded.
If you would like to see a ``beehive'' of positive, challenging and motivating activities designed to help students grow and learn, visit Woodstock Elementary School, or for that matter any other Virginia Beach School. I'm certain you will find students actively engaged in meaningful learning activities.
I extend an open invitation to anyone who would like to come for a visit and see first hand the many exciting activities taking place daily.
