Raymond D. Arthur, 90, of the 900 block of Redwood Circle, died March 28, 1996.
He was a retired Southern Baptist Minister and was born in Carteret County, N.C. He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Edna T. Arthur. He was a founding member of Salem Baptist Church, retired from Willoughby Baptist Chapel, and a long-time member of Central Baptist Church in Norfolk. He retired from Old Dominion Paper Co., after which he entered the ministry.
He is survived by his daughter, Kay Bare of Warrenton, N.C.; two sons, Raymond E. Arthur of Hertford, N.C., Paul S. Arthur of Virginia Beach; a brother, James Walton Arthur of Virginia Beach; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday by Dr. Jamie Eads in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Salem Baptist Church Building Fund, 4020 Ware Neck Road, Virginia Beach, Va. 23456.
