James Alvin Jones, of the 1300 block of Reservoir Ave., died March 27, 1996, in a local hospital.
The son of the late the Rev. Mr. Joseph and Mrs. Ena Wilson Jones, he was born Oct. 21, 1933. He attended Norfolk public schools and retired as a construction painter due to disabling illnesses. James was baptized a Christian and was a lifelong adherent of the Baptist faith. He was a former member of Zion Hill Baptist Church, Norfolk.
Survivors left to mourn James are a daughter, Mrs. Donna J. Harlow of Norfolk; two sons, James Alvin Jones Jr. of Norfolk and Alvin Luther Jones of Norfolk; two sisters, Mrs. Ena J. Blocker of Chesapeake and Ms. Harriette J. Kearney of Chesapeake; a brother, Minister Joseph Jones Jr.; special nephew, Luther K. Gray Jr. of Paterson, N.J.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at Graves Chapel, 1653 Church St., Norfolk, on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Mrs. Rosa L. Hollomond officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery.
