``Miller-Warner debates'' (editorial, March 14) proclaims ``we'' need debates as a part of the job-interview process in the upcoming Republican U.S. Senate primary.
Let me see if I have the facts straight.
Sen. John Warner was born and bred in Virginia; Jim Miller is a good old Georgia boy. Warner is a U.S. military veteran, having served in both the Navy and Marine Corps; Miller received numerous educational deferments and did not serve in uniform.
Warner was secretary of the Navy (we are still a Navy town); Miller was director of the Office of Management and Budget. Warner has been elected to the U.S. Senate three times; Miller has never been elected to any public office.
Warner has been instrumental in bringing thousands of jobs and billions of dollars to Hampton Roads; Miller has contributed nothing to the area's economic vitality.
Warner has a consistent, 18-year record of voting for conservative measures; Miller is a recent ``far-right'' convert and has never cast a conservative vote.
Warner places his country's and Virginians' interest first; Miller is a ``party'' loyalist first and foremost.
Warner wants his party to get ahead; Miller wants the party to ``get even.''
Warner has given us pride and performance; Miller has given platitudes and promises.
You, Sir, may need further ``interviews''; I am rehiring Sen. John Warner.
