JAMES A. JONES

James Alvin Jones, of the 1300 block of Reservoir Ave., died March 27, 1996, in a local hospital.

The son of the late the Rev. Mr. Joseph and Mrs. Eva Wilson Jones, he was born Oct. 21, 1933. He attended Norfolk public schools and retired as a construction painter due to disabling illnesses. James was baptized a Christian and was a lifelong adherent of the Baptist faith. He was a former member of Zion Hill Baptist Church, Norfolk.

Survivors left to mourn James are a daughter, Mrs. Donna J. Horton of Norfolk; two sons, James Alvin Jones Jr. of Norfolk and Alvin Luther Jones of Norfolk; two sisters, Mrs. Eva J. Blocker of Chesapeake and Ms. Harriette J. Kearney of Chesapeake; a brother, Minister Joseph Jones Jr.; special nephew, Luther K. Gray Jr. of Paterson, N.J.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at Graves Chapel, 1653 Church St., Norfolk, on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Mrs. Rosa L. Hollomond officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery. Graves Funeral Home is in charge. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
