Elizabeth Smith Baines, 78, died March 30, 1996 in Richmond.
A native of Gates County, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Clyde Aubrey and Virginia Doughtie Smith and the widow of Richard Edward Baines. Mrs. Baines was a member of First Baptist Church in Suffolk.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Emily Faye B. and Charles M. McKinney Jr. of Richmond; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard E. Baines Jr. and Joanne B. Baines of Denver, Colo.; two sisters, Virginia S. Harrell of Suffolk and Juanita S. Lilley of Chesapeake; two brothers, C. Aubrey Smith and Winifred S. Smith Sr., both of Suffolk; and five grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home by the Rev. Charles W. Thompson with burial in Holly Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home Monday from 7 to 8 p.m.
