CARLTON R. MARTIN

Carlton Russell Martin of the 5000 block of Pleasant Hall Drive died Friday, March 29, 1996. He was born in Greeley, Iowa, on Dec. 3, 1916, to Archie and Elsie Martin. He was reared and educated in Elkader, Iowa.

After graduating from Elkader High School in 1934 and Elkader Junior College in 1936, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, entering the Fleet Naval Reserve in 1960 after 25 years of active service. He was advanced to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer W-2 and retired in June 1966. Mr. Martin was very proud to have served three tours of duty as a hospital corpsman aboard naval vessels independent of a medical officer.

He was a licensed pilot and an avid aviation enthusiast. He was united in marriage with Jane Burguss of Lake Forest Ill., on Aug. 30, 1941. Two sons were born of this marriage, which had lasted for 55 years.

Survivors include his wife, Jane; two sons, Russell and Roger; three grandchildren, Paul, John and Nancy; and two sisters and two brothers.

His favorite charity was Boys' Town.

The family will be at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel on Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a gift may be made to your favorite charity. Inurnment will be in East Side Cemetery in Elkader, Iowa.
