WILLIAM R. THOMPSON

William Rayford ``Tommy'' Thompson, 72, of Virginia Beach, died March 30, 1996 at Sentara Bayside Hospital.

Mr. Thompson was a native of Norfolk and is survived by his wife, Mary Sue Thompson of Virginia Beach; a son, Steve C. Thompson of Virginia Beach; and a daughter, Susan E. Thompson of Virginia Beach. Other family members include his aunt, S. Frances Brockett and cousins Robert E. Brockett Jr. and Harry F. Brockett; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jack R. and Susan L. Norman, Rebecca, Michael and Mark.

Mr. Thompson was a retired salesman and Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Thalia Lynn Baptist Church and was an active deacon at Norview Baptist Church in Norfolk. He was a member of the Exchange Club of Tidewater and the Men's Garden Club of Tidewater as well as the Tidewater Rose Society. He was an avid golfer and baseball enthusiast who enjoyed life and many wonderful friends.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. A service will be held on Monday, April 1, 1996, at the funeral home at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Robert L. Crute of Thalia Lynn Baptist Church. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery in Norfolk.
