CRIME LINE

Local police are asking public assistance in solving these cases:

VIRGINIA BEACH

A rental company was robbed in the middle of the day by two men.

On March 12, about 1 p.m., two armed men walked into B&H rentals in the 500 block of Central Drive in the London Bridge Industrial Park.

They demanded and were given money and then ran to the parking lot and fled in a white, late '80s Ford 250 pickup with silver and black trim along the sides.

Both men are described as black and were wearing knit hats.

One suspect was 6 feet 1 inch tall and 180 pounds with a round face and a mustache. He was wearing a camouflage jacket.

The other suspect was about 5 feet 8 inches tall with a thin build and was wearing a black and white flannel shirt.

PORTSMOUTH

On Feb. 25, about 3 a.m., Cecil Antonio King was shot in his home in the 500 block of Normandy Street. He died a short time later at a hospital.

Police are unsure of what happened and have no motive in the killing.

A possible suspect, wearing blue jeans and a dark, hooded sweatshirt, was seen running out the front door immediately after the shooting.

NORFOLK

A recent rash of thefts from downtown office buildings has investigators searching for several suspects. Some of the thieves may be working together, but most are believed to be working alone.

In each case, the thief gains entry to areas closed to the public and takes items such as computers, briefcases, payroll bags and purses.

The thieves then walk out in plain view of employees.

Witnesses have described the thieves as wearing everything from maintenance worker uniforms to suits and ties.

One suspect is described as a black male, 6 feet tall and weighing more than 200 pounds. He had short hair and was clean-shaven. The man was driving a red four-door Ford Tempo.

A March 1 photo from a camera at an automatic teller machine shows another suspect, a woman who used a stolen ATM card at a bank in Chesapeake. The card had been taken earlier that day from the downtown Norfolk area. The card was used at a NationsBank and at a First Virginia Bank.

On March 1, about 2:30 a.m., a man entered the 7-Eleven store in the 100 block of West Little Creek Road. Wielding a handgun, he approached a clerk, took a cigarette and lighter display and fled. He ran toward the Bondale apartments, where police recovered one of the display racks.

The man's picture was taken by a surveillance camera; although he covered his face, police believe he can be identified.

The suspect is described as black, 5 feet 10 inches tall and about 200 pounds. He was wearing a black scarf, a black-and-white checked flannel jacket and dark jeans.

CHESAPEAKE

In recent months, there have been numerous thefts from vehicles reported in the Dunedin section of Western Branch.

The robbers break the windows of vehicles parked on the street and then take stereo equipment.

Investigators have charged three subjects, but believe others are involved.

HAMPTON

On March 19, about 8 p.m., Best Products in the 1900 block of Coliseum Drive was robbed by four men.

One of the suspects placed a gun to an employee's head and ordered him to the jewelry department.

The other three suspects broke display cases open with a sledge hammer and stole an assortment of jewelry.

All of the suspects are described as black, in their 20s, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall and of medium build. Each was wearing a white or gray hooded sweatshirt and gloves. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
