City Council will hold a public hearing on the proposed 1996-97 budget at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Larkspur Middle School, 4696 Princess Anne Road.
More than 50 people already have signed up to speak, so individual speakers will be limited to a few minutes each.
Those wishing to speak can sign up at the door or beforehand by calling the City Clerk's office at 427-4303. The hearing impaired can call 427-4305 to sign up.
The budget calls for a 3.2-cent increase in the real estate tax rate. Most of the increase will help make up for a reduction in federal funding for schools, improve maintenance of city buildings and staff the new Virginia Marine Science Museum.
A second public hearing on the proposed budget will be held at 2 p.m. May 9 in City Council chambers at City Hall. by CNB
