BRUCE R. PURNELL SR.

Bruce R. Purnell Sr., of the 2400 block of Virginia Beach Blvd., died April 15, 1996, in a local hospital.

He was a retired operating room attendant for Norfolk General Hospital. He was a native of Norfolk and the widower of Menervia Purnell. He was a member of Queen Street Baptist Church where he was involved with the male usher board, the senior choir, and the male chorus.

He is survived by two daughters, Garnette Purnell and Ann ``Tonie'' Bullock, both of Norfolk; a son, Bruce R. Purnell Jr. of Virginia Beach; a sister, Edith Lankford of Norfolk; a brother, Joseph Purnell of Norfolk; nine grandchildren; and two great-grand-children.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday by the Rev. Peter Wherry in Queen Street Baptist Church. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Graves Funeral Home is in charge. The family will receive friends at the residence. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m.
