There's a reason Charles R. Malbon Jr. is nicknamed ``Large.''
He is.
But anyone who knows him knows there's a nice - and funny - guy behind that 6-foot-plus exterior.
Ask the folks at the Virginia Beach SPCA. For several years he stirred up a few chuckles at the shelter's annual pet/fashion show gala.
``He sort of opens the event, warms up the audience,'' said Elizabeth Martin-Gayle, SPCA director of development. ``One year he came out in a toga with a lampshade on his head. He always dressed as something.''
To the shelter's dismay Malbon was unable to make last weekend's annual gala.
``This year we had to find a replacement - which was very hard,'' added Martin-Gayle.
