GEORGE W. LOGGANS

George W. Loggans, of the Camellia Gardens Area, died April 1, 1996.

Mr. Loggans, a native of Greer, S.C., retired from the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant commander after 30 years of service. He attended Azalea Baptist Church and was a life member of the Retired Officers Association, Fleet Reserve Branch (NU)5, and the D.A.V. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was also honored to be a member of the Silver Eagles Association, which is composed of retired former enlisted aviators. He was also honored to have been the first operations officer of VRC-40, which was the first Navy air transport squadron to be organized to fly cargo and passengers on and off carriers at sea. He was a community leader and served as president of the Camellia Gardens Civic League for several years.

Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Marcedia Loggans; two daughters, Janice Migliorati and her husband, Claudio of Italy, Patricia Cornell of Chesapeake; two sisters, Irene Hooker and her husband, Jesse, of Concord, N.C., Erlene Tarlton and her husband, Dennis, of Concord; two sisters-in-law, Sylvia Loggans of Rimer, N.C., Mazie Loggans of Kannapolis, N.C.; three grandchildren, Stefano Migliorati, Elena Migliorati, and Daniel Cornell. He was predeceased by two brothers, Harold Loggans and Uyless Loggans.

A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday at Azalea Baptist Church by Dr. Danny L. Owens. Burial will be i be made to the Azalea Baptist Church Summer Youth Programs. Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, is in charge.
