Roland J. Smith
VIRGINIA BEACH - Roland James Smith, 83, died at his home on Pleasant Ridge Road on Sunday, March 31, 1996.
Born in Old Princess Anne County on Dec. 14, 1912, Roland J. Smith was the son of the late Andrew Washington and Margaret James Smith. He was the husband of the late Estelle Peele Smith. Known affectionately as ``Jinx,'' he retired after more than 40 years as an automobile mechanic.
Mr. Smith is survived by his son, Ray Thomas Smith; his sister, Gladys Smith Rainey of Norfolk; and two brothers, Amos Ryland Smith and Vernon Thomas Smith, both of Virginia Beach.
A graveside service at Charity Cemetery will be conducted by the Rev. Talmedge T. Markham today at 3 p.m. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, is in charge.
