HAYDEN C. MONROE

Hayden Carl Monroe, 85, died of cancer on March 31, 1996, at his residence in Virginia Beach.

He was born and grew up in Columbus, Ohio, the son of Charles Monroe and Marie Trish Monroe. He graduated from high school and attended Ohio State University.

Mr. Monroe served in the Army Air Corps in World War II with the rank of technical sergeant. He was a B-29 line chief on the Pacific island of Kwajalein.

For 40 years he made his home in Berea, Ohio, and for over 25 years was employed by the Tinnerman Division of the Eaton Corp. After the death of Josephine Coutry Monroe, his wife of 54 years, he lived with his son's family in Winston-Salem, N.C., and Virginia Beach. He was an avid bridge player and loyal fan of the Cleveland Indians and Browns.

Mr. Monroe is survived by his sister, Viola Hall of Venice, Fla.; his son, Hayden Keith Monroe; his daughter-in-law, Deborah Dean Monroe; and his granddaughter, Miranda Nell Monroe.

He will be buried alongside his wife and mother-in-law, Nelle Williams Coutry in Woodvale Cemetery in Berea. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
