Lemuel ``Ray'' Stallings departed this life on March 30, 1996, at DePaul Hospital, Norfolk, after a short illness.
He was born in Norfolk on Aug. 6, 1949. He attended Norfolk Public Schools and was employed by the city of Norfolk for over 27 years and was a custodian supervisor for the last 18 years.
Survivors include his wife, Melba Barbara A. Stallings; his mother, Lydia G. Stallings; two stepsons, Kenneth A. Pitt and Joseph A. Pitt Jr., all of Norfolk; a sister, Virginia Stallings of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a brother, John Stallings of New Bedford, Mass.; a mother-in-law, Eunice N. Ampey of Norfolk; a best friend, Len W. Evans of Chesapeake; a godson, Anthony T. Vick of Chesapeake; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. at New St. Mark Baptist Church, 1136 St. Julian Ave., Norfolk, with the Rev. Elmar Phillips officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Hale Funeral Home.
