MARIE ASKEW

Marie Askew, 81, died April 2, 1996, in Newport News.

She was a retired real estate agent. She was a native of North Carolina and the widow of Derwood G. Askew. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Portsmouth. She had many special friends and neighbors though was sometimes misunderstood. She devoted her life to helping her loved ones and spreading kindness and love to all her friends at the Newport News Baptist Retirement Community.

She is survived by a daughter, Judy A. Blankenship and her husband, Michael of Gastonia, N.C.; brother, Mills A. Smith of Portsmouth; and niece, Vickie S. Parson of Suffolk.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Olive Branch Cemetery. Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, is in charge. A viewing will be at the funeral home after 2 p.m. today. The family will be at 3208 Dogwood Drive, Portsmouth.
