CAR HITS POLE, ENDING CHASE; DRIVER INJURED

A police pursuit ended early Wednesday when a Virginia Beach man crashed his car into a pole.

Police tried to stop Richard U. Jones in the 3400 block of George Washington Highway for allegedly driving recklessly about 1:30 a.m.

The chase went into Chesapeake and returned to Portsmouth. Jones, 22, lost control of his car in the 5000 block of George Washington Highway before the vehicle struck a pole and the side of a tire store.

Jones of the 1100 block of Kearsarge Court was in critical but stable condition in a hospital.

Jones was charged with reckless driving, attempting to elude police and driving with a revoked license.
