American collegiate pole vault record holder Lawrence Johnson, a graduate of Great Bridge High School, is the headline performer at the 34th annual Colonial Relays which begin today at William and Mary.
Johnson, a two-time NCAA champ at Tennessee, set the collegiate record of 19 feet, 2 inches last year.
Bryan Hyde and Lashonda Cutchin are two more standouts among the 168 colleges and high schools competing in the three-day meet.
Hyde, a William and Mary senior, is a three-time All-American in the 1,500 meters. Cutchin, a Bayside junior, is the defending Group AAA state champion in the 100. She also anchored the Marlins' state winning 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
First Colonial, Granby, Great Bridge, Kempsville, Lake Taylor, Nansemond River, Norfolk Academy, Norview, Oscar Smith, Princess Anne, Western Branch and Wilson join Bayside in the high school division.
Norfolk State and Old Dominion will compete in the college division.
Kevin McMahon, a U.S. National Team member in the hammer, and Lisa Fazekes, the Hungarian national women's high jump champion, will highlight the open division. by CNB
