Paul Joseph Rountree, 79, of Route 1, died Thursday, April 4, 1996, in Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City.
Mr. Rountree was born in Gates County. The son of the late Raleigh W. and Mrs. Lizzie Stallings Rountree, he was a retired farmer. A member of Eureka Baptist Church, he had formerly served as the Chairman of the Board of Deacons and was a member of and former teacher of the adult men's Sunday school class.
Surviving are his wife, Mae Eason Rountree; daughter, Paula R. Casper and her husband, Kenny of Sunbury; one son, Earl Rountree and his wife, Jo, of Sunbury; two stepdaughters, Phyllis Winborne and her husband, Emmett, of Edenton and Cynthia Brinson and her husband, James L. Jr. of Elizabeth City; one sister, Magenta R. Rountree of Charlotte, N.C.; 10 grandchildren, Scott Rountree and his wife, Ruth, Wendy Rountree, Travis Casper, Brett Casper, Jonathan Casper, Stacey Layden and her husband, Brian, Elliott Winborne, Sarah Winborne, Lindsay Brinson, and Whitney Brinson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Eureka Baptist Church by the Rev. Cameron Currin and Dr. Floyd Enzor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, in charge of arrangements. Friends may join the family at the residence.
