PORTSMOUTH - Marie S. Askew, 81, died April 2, 1996, in Newport News.
She was a retired real estate agent. She was a native of North Carolina and the widow of Derwood G. Askew. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Portsmouth. She had many special friends and neighbors. Although sometimes misunderstood, she devoted her life to helping her loved ones and spreading kindness and love to all her friends at the Newport News Baptist Retirement Community.
She is survived by a daughter, Judy A. and her husband, Michael Blankenship of Gastonia, N.C.; brother, Mills A. Smith of Portsmouth; and niece, Vickie Parsons of Suffolk.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Olive Branch Cemetery. There will be no formal visitation, however a viewing will be at Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel.
