James Brown Sr., 71, of 2540 Bird Land, died April 3, 1996, in Marview Hospital, Portsmouth.
He was a retired machinist for Allied Mills where he had worked for 30 years. Mr. Brown was a native of Potecasi, N.C.
He is survived by his wife, Annie L. Brown; two daughters, Juanita Dudley of Chesapeake, and Francyne Davis of Virginia Beach; three sons, the Rev. James Brown Jr. and Robert L. Brown, both of Portsmouth, and Marvin L. Brown of Boston; sister, Mattie Mullen of Portsmouth; two brothers, Riddick Brown of Portsmouth and Gus Brown of Connecticutt; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday by the Rev. M.L. Blount in New Mount Olivet Baptist Church, Portsmouth. Burial is in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at noon Sunday. The body will be taken to the church at noon Monday.
