Frontis Blakeney Sr., 71, formerly of 51 Shelby Street, died April 4, 1996, in Sentara Hampton General Hospital.
He was a native of Lancaster County, S.C. and had been a welder with the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He retired after 35 years of service. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, a member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church and a member of the Male Chorus.
He is survived by his wife, Johnnie L. Blakeney of Hampton; five daughters, Dollie Harris and Makey Barber, both of Dayton, Ohio, Hazel Blakeney and Glenda Blakeney, both of Hampton, and Veronica Fair of Lynchburg; three sons, Frontis Blakeney Jr., Ralph Timothy Blakeney and Andre F. Blakeney, all of Hampton; a brother, Coble Blakeney of Portsmouth; 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. He was pre-deceased by a son, Rayfield L. Blakeney.
A funeral will be held on Monday at 3 p.m. at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, the Rev. Curtis E. Edmonds officiating. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery with military honors. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at noon on Sunday. The family will be at 24 Freeman Drive, Hampton and at the funeral home from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 2:30 p.m. Monday. The body will be taken to the church at 2 p.m. Monday.
