Cars streamed across the Wright Memorial Bridge Friday as hundreds of visitors arrived at the Outer Banks for Easter Weekend.
Traditionally the kick-off of the area's tourism season, today and Sunday will be packed with more people than North Carolina's barrier islands have seen since September.
Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce spokeswoman Angie Brady-Daniels said the early spring has been soft for area merchants because of the cooler-than-usual weather and rain.
``But the weekend's looking pretty good so far,'' she said Friday from her Kill Devil Hills office. ``Motels are starting to fill up. And traffic is picking up, too. We've also had a good number of tour buses arrive during the past two weeks - and that always helps business.'' ILLUSTRATION: Color photo by ROBIE RAY/The Virginian-Pilot
