Doris Allene Benton, 92, formerly of Portsmouth, died April 6, 1996, at Chesapeake Health Care.
Mrs. Benton, a retired sales clerk, worked for Altschuls Department Store. She was a native of Sunbury, N.C., and a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Portsmouth and its Fidelis Sunday school class.
Survivors include a sister, Mary Benton Smith of Chesapeake; nephew, L. Stafford Smith Jr. of Norfolk; and a host of great-nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted by the Rev. Philip J. Parker at 11 a.m. Monday in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of her nephew, Stafford Smith, 611 Maury Ave., Norfolk. Friends desiring to view may call at Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, after 1 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimers and Related Disorders, 20 Koger Center, Norfolk, Va., 23502.
