FIVE ATHLETES TO BE INDUCTED INTO ODU HALL OF FAME

Five former Old Dominion University standouts will be inducted into the school's hall of fame at a banquet on April 23 at the Waterside Marriott.

The are: Jon Hurst (golf), Wayne Parks (baseball/basketball), Jackie Grady-Gerzabech (field hockey/lacrosse), Jeff Fuhrmann (basketball) and Gary Bodie (sailing).

In 1991, Hurst took sixth in the NCAA golf regionals and advanced to the NCAA championships in Monterey, Calif., where he earned All-American honors. He was named Virginia Collegiate Golfer of the year.

Parks, was a two-sport standout in baseball and basketball. As a third baseman, he helped lead the team to the 1963 and 1964 NCAA East Regional Championships by hitting .330 and leading the team in runs scored with 28. He was a two-time Mason Dixon Conference Selection. In basketball, he scored a career-high 22 points against both Lynchburg and Western Maryland.

Also a two-sport standout, Grady-Gerzabech starred in field hockey and lacrosse, serving as captain for both teams. She was a two-time All-American in field hockey in 1985 and 1986 and was named to the 1985 NCAA field hockey national championship all-tournament team. She played on two of ODU's national championship teams in '83 and '84. In lacrosse, she was a first team All-South Atlantic regional selection in both 1986 and 1987.

Fuhrmann helped lead the Monarchs to the 1975 NCAA Division II national championship and then on to Division I. In its first Division I season, ODU went 25-4 including a 22-game winning streak. He finished his collegiate career as the school's 12th all-time scorer with 1,429 points and 627 rebounds.

Bodie came to Old Dominion in 1978 as the university's first sailing head coach, and by 1982, the team had won the Women's ICYRA Collegiate National Championship - the first of eight collegiate sailing titles. He coached the Old Dominion sailing program until 1985 before becoming the head coach at the U.S. Naval Academy.
