ROBERT L. MALCH SR.

Robert Leonard Malch Sr., 79, of Citation Drive, a retired Marine Corps Major, died April 8, 1996, at his residence.

Mr. Malch was a native of New Mexico, but was reared in Glendale, Calif.; he had made his home in this area for the past 50 years. He retired from the U.S. Marine Corps in 1965 after 30 years. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was also retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of the the Immaculate Conception Mission Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Retired Officers Association, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Association, a life member the American Philatelic Society, a member of the Arkansas Genealogical Society, and a member of the Virginia Beach Genealogical Society.

He was the son of the late Joseph A. Malch of Germany and the late Ethel Katherine Brasher Malch of Catoosa, Okla. He is survived by his wife, of 54 years, Merry Geleene Jones Malch; daughter, Ethel Katherine Spence of Virginia Beach; and a son, Robert Leonard Malch Jr. of Orlando, Fla.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two brothers, Bruce Eugene Malch of Nehalem, Ore., and John Thomas Malch of San Diego, Calif.

The Requiem Mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, Virginia Beach, by Father Terry Marks. Burial with military honors will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk. A Rosary Service will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. with a visitation following.
