BEFORE THE athletes participating in the 1995 Norfolk Invitational Relays hit the track at Norfolk State University this weekend, they'll be kicking up their heels Thursday at a show featuring Grace Decca, The Bosz and Nia Olabesi and Trio.
The concert is part of a VIP Black Tie Gala, beginning at 6 p.m. at NSU's Scott-Dosier Hall. Tickets are $25. For info, call 683-8801.
Olabesi, an accomplished jazz singer, dancer and actress, debuted with the disc ``The Lady Sings Jazz,'' a tribute to jazz greats. A native of Washington, D.C., Olabesi focuses on the spiritual journey of music. Her trio includes pianist Dan La Maestra, bassist Mykle Lyons and drummer Bubbles Dean.
The Bosz is celebrated for his 5 1/2-octave voice, performing R&B, classical, jazz, gospel and opera.
More than 800 athletes from 80 institutions will complete at the relays Friday and Saturday, one of the last Olympic qualifying events before the Summer Olympics in Atlanta. ILLUSTRATION: FILE PHOTOS
