SAMUEL PIERCE JR.

Samuel Pierce Jr., 75, of the first block of Elm Ave., died April 7, 1996, at Portsmouth General Hospital.

Mr. Pierce, a native of Orangeburg, S.C., was a retired laborer from Peck Scrap Iron Company.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred W. Pierce; two daughters, Gloria Jean Wash of California, Vivian Jones of Portsmouth; two sons, Leon Wright and James William Wright, both of Portsmouth; two sisters, Sarah Rockett of Portsmouth and Ruby Harrison of Jeffersonville, Ind.; 22 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, friends and a son-in-law, Perry L. Wash, of San Francisco, Calif.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at New Mount Olivet Baptist Church, Portsmouth, by the Rev. M.L. Blount. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday. The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Friday.
