MELVIN STRUTTON

Melvin ``Bob'' Strutton, 73, of the first block of Fairway Drive, died April 8, 1996, at a Norfolk hospital.

Mr. Strutton, a native of Eden, N.C., was retired from the U.S. Naval Weapons Station in Yorktown. He was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Khedive Shrine Temple and honorary member of its Hillbillie Unit, Portsmouth Scottish Rite Bodies, Washington-Lafayette Masonic Lodge (NU)176. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Deanie Strutton; a daughter, Debbie Strutton of Richmond; four sisters, Christine Harris and Marie Preddy, both of Eden, Viola Jarrett of Kannapolis, N.C., Ruth Martin of Stella, N.C.; two brothers, Clifford Strutton of Eden and Wilford Ray Strutton of Portsmouth.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. Joseph G. Savinsky. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery with Masonic rites. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Andrew's United Methodist Church Organ Fund.
