Roland L. Ore Sr., 64, of the 1300 block of Ray St., died April 9, 1996, in a local hospital.
He was born in Lynchburg, Va., in 1931. He worked most recently for Sentara Health Systems in motor transportation. He was retired from the Norfolk and Western Railroad completing 33 years of service. He graduated from Norview High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army. He was Baptist by faith. He participated in the Azalea Little League in Norfolk for 27 years. He was the founder of the Tidewater Athletic Club and the Norfolk and Western Softball Invitational Tournament.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James W. and Thelma M. Ore Sr. Mr. Ore is survived by his wife, Joan Rae Ore, and two sons, Roland L. ``Les'' Ore Jr. and his wife, Laura of Chespeake, and Steven W. Ore of Norfolk; four brothers, James W. Ore Jr. and Dale P. Ore Sr. of Virginia Beach, Henry H. Ore of Suffolk, and Edward D. Ore of Kill Devil Hills, N.C. He is also survived by four grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in Rosewood Memorial Park with the Rev. Lamar Sentell presiding. Altmeyer Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
