Jose ``Papa'' Cortes, 98, of the 1200 block of Magnolia Ave., died April 8, 1996, at a local hospital.
Mr. Cortes, the widower of Marie T. Cortes, was a native of Valencia, Spain. He was a service technician for Eastern Auto and retired after 16 years. He also was a musician who played the violin. He was a member of Larchmont Baptist Church. Mr. Cortes was a veteran of the Spanish Navy and a graduate of the Conservatory of Music, Valencia.
Survivors include a daughter, Jocelyne Ramey of Norfolk; three grandchildren, Florence Geracie, Arleen Womack, and Lynn Jones; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Larchmont Baptist Church by the Rev. John Dean. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, today from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
