COMMUNITY LINK: WHRO and Hampton Roads' public libraries are expanding Community Link (http://www.communitylink.org), the World Wide Web-based electronic communications and information system, to seven more libraries, plus the Norfolk Law Library and 11 Norfolk Public Library branches.

Community Link was launched in August 1995 and initially was available only in two Norfolk libraries: Kirn Memorial and the Blyden Branch Library. The initiative is designed to develop and encourage free public access to education and information online services.

On Tuesday, April 16, at 10 a.m., libraries from throughout Hampton Roads will participate in Log-on at the Library Day as part of National Library Week. Mayors and city officials will be chatting online with each other at their main public library sites in Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, Portsmouth and York County.

Residents are invited to their main libraries to cruise the Internet and the Community Link service, which provides users with access to city agencies, museums and more.

Other activities open to the public April 16 include ``Cybertours of Law-Related World Wide Web Sites'' at the Norfolk Law Library from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Law Library is in Dominion Tower on Waterside Drive.

Also that week, the Hampton Roads Internet Association will host a program that includes a discussion called ``Can you Protect Your Children on the Internet?'' at 7 p.m. April 18 in the auditorium at the Central Library in Virginia Beach.

Community Link also can be found with WHRO's Home Page: http://www.whro.org
