The Bay View Elementary PTA has announced its most successful ``penny drive'' in six years. The drive raised more than $3,100 to buy school supplies and equipment.
Also, the PTA generated nearly $500 during a recent sold-out spaghetti dinner.
The funds will be used to help fulfill teachers' ``wish lists,'' PTA president Mary Kay Corbin said. Past items purchased by the fund-raising drives include library books, computer software and office equipment.
Teachers turned the penny drive into an educational event, Corbin said. The theme this year was U.S. presidents; each time a class turned in pennies, students learned facts about a president they had selected for their room. Queen to visit school
Mary Calcott Elementary students will be graced Wednesday with a visit by a queen - Azalea Festival Queen Emilie Patijn of The Netherlands.
Students will perform songs and dance centered on the theme ``a circle of friendship.'' The song ``Love in any language'' will be performed in sign language. The school has become known for its work with hearing impaired students. Scholarship auction
