CHRISTIAN GROUP COMING TO HERTFORD HIGH

There is no mistaking where David & The Giants stand.

The group's message is loud and clear, Christian rock that takes an aggressive stand for Jesus.

Its members have been doing it for 20 years. Wednesday, they will do it at Hertford County High School in a concert sponsored by The Carpenter's Shop Church of Ahoskie.

``This is a unique opportunity for this area,'' said the Rev. Wallace Phillips, pastor. ``Every young person ought to experience a David & The Giants concert.''

Make that young, old and in between, according to David Huff, the lead singer.

``We're seeing the kids of original fans at the concerts, as well as the original fans,'' he said. ``We have teenagers, older people and even little ones.''

``I find it just as easy to talk to 10-year-olds as I do to an 80-year-old. I don't allow walls or barriers between myself and others. Maybe some of that is my Mississippi upbringing.''

David & The Giants are headquartered in Forest, Miss., recording for Giant Records.

``Passion for souls is the main reason we keep doing our music. That's been our lifeline,'' Huff said. ``We try to exalt the name of Jesus.''

They have exalted that name through 16 albums, and were once nominated for a Dove Award.

Before he got anywhere near that point Huff, like some in the business, had to turn his life around.

``It took three car wrecks and getting busted for drugs before I would surrender my life to Christ,'' he said. ``When I finally did, I didn't just surrender smoking dope, wild parties, or the club life.

``I gave Him my heart, my soul, my mind and my music.

``That's what David & The Giants is all about.'' MEMO: AT A GLANCE
