Harris ty Committee for the Hampton Roads area. The committee of 15 local representatives will be responsible for helping the Department of Environmental Quality determine appropriate steps for keeping the region's ozone levels down.
The committee will help the DEQ form a re-designation request asking the Environmental Protection Agency to re-designate Hampton Roads as an area that meets federal air quality standards. It also will help develop a maintenance plan outlining how Hampton Roads will meet federal air quality standards through 2007.
The committee will meet over the next three months to discuss an existing draft plan. At that time, members will make recommendations and/or changes to the maintenance plan. Prior to submitting a final plan to the EPA, the plan will be available for public comment. The target date for submitting the plan to the EPA is July 1.
