HAROLD P. REID

Harold ``Killer'' Pharoah Reid, of the 2800 block of Mapleton Ave., died Monday, April 8, 1996, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

He was a retired postal clerk for the U.S. Postal Service where he had worked for 40 years. He was a native of Norfolk and the son of the late William E. and Ella Elizabeth Doswell Reid. Mr. Reid was the widower of Shirley Reid. He was a member of First Calvary Baptist Church for over 50 years where he was a member of the deacon board. Mr. Reid was a member of the Chesterfields Savings and Social Club, Postal Employee's Association, Virginia State Alumni Association, Huntersville Senior Citizens, and 2800 Block Club. He was a graduate of Booker T. Washington Class of '41 where he was an outstanding football player. ``Killer'' was a member of the team of '38 which had a perfect season, untied, unscored upon, and undefeated. He went on to excel in football at Virginia State College, now Virginia State University. He was past master of Campbell (NU)6 Prince Hall, and Free and Accepted Masons.

He is survived by his sister, Clarice R. Hart of Virginia Beach; brother, Maurice Reid of Norfolk; nieces, Cordelia Reid, Maria Indira Hart; nephews, William Reid III and Ronald Reid of New York City; three aunts, Edna Doswell, wife of the late Bishop James Doswell, Minnie J. Reid of New York City, and Millie Hines of Chesapeake; one uncle, Joseph T. Doswell of Virginia Beach; fiancee and dearest friend, Florence Thorne; and a passionate and dutiful neighbor, Dorothy Glover.

A graveside service will be conducted at noon Saturday by Dr. J.L. White at Calvary Cemetery, Norfolk. The funeral will assemble at the cemetery at 11:45 a.m. Saturday. Viewing will be on Friday from 2 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home and the family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Riddick Funeral Service is in charge.
