Mildred M. Winston, 67, of the 1000 block of Liston Lane, died April 8, 1996, in her residence.
She was a food service worker for the Portsmouth Public Schools until she retired after 21 years. She was a native of Norfolk County, Va., and the widow of Paul R. Winston Sr. She was a former member of Rehoboth A.M.E. Church, Chesapeake. She was also a member of the Concerned Citizens of Liston Lane. She was a graduate of Norcom High School and a graduate of Norfolk Beauty Academy.
She is survived by her daughter, Kristel V. Gaines; daughter-in-law, Bertha M. Winston; son, Paul R. Winston Jr.; son-in-law, Christopher Gaines; four brothers, Redell Windley Jr. of Many, La., Hiawatha Windley of Portsmouth, Jerry A. Windley of Chesapeake, Horace Windley of Philadelphia; four grandchildren, Traci N. Gaines, Ashley K. Gaines, Krystal Hicks, Donnie Hicks, all of Portsmouth; two nieces; two nephews; three sisters-in-law; and a host of cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Zilpha Mae Windley and Redell Windley Sr.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday by the Rev. Clifton White in Fisher Funeral Home. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery. The family will leave the residence at 10:30 a.m. Mildred loved her family and many friends who were always in her thoughts. ILLUSTRATION: Personal Photo
