DRIVER DIES OF INJURIES

A 24-year-old Hampton man died Wednesday afternoon after suffering serious injuries in an accident on I-64, state police spokeswoman Tammy Van Dame said.

The man was not identified pending notification of his family.

Van Dame said the accident occurred at 3:40 a.m. just west of County Street. He was driving a 1991 green Acura when he apparently lost control. The car hit a traffic-control wall and overturned several times. The driver was thrown out of the car into the middle lane.

He suffered severe injuries and was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he died about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Excessive speed appeared to be a factor, Van Dame said.
