MEMORIAL TO THE MEN OF CSS VIRGINIA

ILLUSTRATION: Nelson Thompson, left, manager of Ogg Stone Works in Portsmouth,

inspects a monument to the men who built and manned the ironclad CSS

Virginia at Gosport Navy Yard, now the Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth,

in the 1800s. The monument, below, will be placed in the Civil War

section of Cedar Grove Cemetery in Portsmouth. An unveiling is

scheduled for Memorial Day. The monument is a project of the Sons

of Confederate Veterans Stonewall Jackson Camp 380.
