VOTE YES TO REFERENDUM

On May 7 the voters of Virginia Beach will be asked, through a referendum question on the ballot, to decide how they wish to elect their City Council representatives, keeping in mind that this will also apply to the School Board.

I intend to vote yes on the question for I do not want to be denied my right to vote for all elected officials and thus hold them accountable to me. The proposed ward system will deny me that right for I no longer could vote for, or against, six members - the majority that could control so much that affects my daily life.

All residents have an equal, vested interest in our local government and their foremost concern should be to elect the best possible leadership for the city as a whole. I urge all voters to become familiar with this issue by contacting a grass roots organization, Citizens For Accountable Government at 464-4981, and then join with me in voting yes on May 7.
